As American–or Dutch?–as apple pie.
At first glance, visitors to Amsterdam may not understand why Winkel 43 is so popular. The restaurant is small, and its menu is even smaller. However, the big draw can be summed up in two short words: apple pie.
More than Dessert
Winkel 43 is famous for its apple pie, which is prepared fresh daily and served with a huge dollop of homemade whipped cream. The lunch menu may not be huge, but it offers unique flavor combinations, and it changes monthly. The dinner menu changes daily–guests who come for dessert can always expect a new and interesting main course.
The restaurant is located next to the Noordermarkt–a popular flea market that sells everything from vintage clothes and LPs to valuable antiques, as well as an organic produce market. Therefore, Winkel 43 is especially packed on the weekends. Good thing its terrace is open year-round, despite the temperature.
