War-Era Slogans Become Trendy Decor
During the Communist uprising in Vietnam, Soviet-style propaganda posters and their colorful art flourished. There are plenty of places to see and buy these posters throughout Ho Chi Minh City, but only one place where you can dine with them: Propaganda Vietnamese Bistro. This upscale restaurant offers authentic Vietnamese fare with a cosmopolitan flair.
Traditional Meals, Modern Aesthetic
Every inch of the bright bistro is covered in war-era propaganda art, from the walls right down to the seat cushions. The vivid red, yellows, blues, and greens make for an attractive setting that whets the appetite. The restaurant also has a small patio where guests can dine al fresco on cooler days.
Propaganda’s food is locally sourced, and its dishes are simple but incredibly flavorful. Menu items include crunchy tri-colored rice with shredded chicken and fried egg, and Vietnamese duck curry served with rice noodles. As for beverages, the bistro has an extensive wine list, as well as beers from the nearby Pasteur Street Brewing Company.
