Prague Estates Theater

The oldest theater in Prague and one of the most beautiful neoclassical buildings in the Czech Republic, Prague Estates Theater was opened in 1783 and attracts thousands of visitors each day. In the early years, this theater was known as Nostitz Theater, named after its maker Count Anton von Nostitz-Rieneck.


Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart worked and spent time in Prague on several occasions, creating operas that would later be performed at the Prague Estates Theater. Mozart was assigned to conduct the premiere of Don Giovanni in 1787 after Marriage of Figaro was performed and gained major success at the theater.

Opera performances

The Marriage of Figaro is one of the two most visited operas in the theater. It is performed in Italian with English subtitles included. The other popular opera is the famous Don Giovanni that lasts a little over three hours and is a perfect mixture of tragedy and comedy.
