Modern Art in Amsterdam
The MOCO Museum is one of Amsterdam’s newest museums–it only opened in 2016. Located on the Museumplein, just steps from the Van Gogh Museum, this gallery is committed to displaying the finest modern and contemporary art in an intimate setting.
Rock Stars of Art
The MOCO Museum occupies the Villa Alsberg, a mansion built in 1905. This gilded, old-fashioned space may seem an odd place to display modern art. But its small size allows visitors to examine the pieces more closely than they could in a traditional museum. And it only takes an hour or two to tour the whole building.
MOCO’s website says it aims to focus on the “rock stars of art,” and so far they seem to be doing a good job. Their very first exhibit featured the famous street artist Banksy, as well as Andy Warhol, the godfather of pop art. The museum lobby isn’t large, so visitors are encouraged to skip the line by purchasing tickets online.
