The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is a family favourite for all visitors to Barcelona. The fountains premier performance was on the 19th May 1929 when Barcelona held the Great Universal Exhibition. Many of the locals and dignitaries thought the designer Carles Buigas’ plans were way too ambitious, yet he prevailed and the structure was commissioned. Over 3000 labourers worked tirelessly to bring the wonderful Magic Fountain to life, and it still stands and functions to this day.
A magical festival of light, sound and choreographed water acrobatics, the fountain continues to capture the imaginations of all visitors to the city. Vibrant, colourful jets of water dart upwards filling the air, spraying cooling liquid out into the crowd. The views, atmosphere and excitement envelops the night sky as the crowd awaits the next delightful dance from the fountains. No trip to Barcelona will be complete without a trip to the Magic Fountains of Montjuïc.
