Magdalen Bridge Boathouse

The Magdalen Bridge is a historic bridge built on the Cherwell in 1790. The quaint bridge fashioned in stone has eleven arches and plays a significant role in the traditions of Oxonians especially with regards to punting and the May Morning celebrations on the 1st of May.

Punting at Oxford is an activity that students and visitors engage in with fervor. The gentle Cherwell River that meets the Thames at Oxford offers an open invitation for anyone willing to get into the spirit of Oxford and try their hand at punting.

You can hire punts from the Magdalen Bridge Boathouse which is located under the bridge. The Cherwell flows past the picturesque landscape of the Oxford University Parks, Oxford Botanic Gardens and the verdant Christ Church meadows. It does make for a memorable outing.
