Opened in 1792, the historic opera house of Venice, La Fenice is a place of great atmosphere where the choirmaster Claudio Monteverdi from San Marco performed. It is also the opera where the incredibly talented Bellini and Rossini staged their operas and where the famous Verdi staged his operas Rigoletto and La Traviata. La Fenice is place with many-faceted chandeliers, delightful ornaments and red velvet. It stages opera performances and classical concerts, as well as ballets.
The story of the Opera House
In 1996 a mysterious but devastating fire turned the opera house into ashes. Donations from all parts of the world reached Venice and La Fenice like a real Phoenix was reconstructed on its original place and according to its original site. The opera house was reopened in 2003 and ever since the opera season is full from January to July and from September to October. Travelers are welcome to tour the opera house with advance booking.
