La Buvetta da Mae d’Agua

La Buvetta da Mae d’Agua is a rustic restaurant that looks more akin to a secret café. Inside you’ll find a handful of tables and a whole host of knowledgeable and friendly staff while out the back you’ll find an outdoor seating area, nestled amongst flora and fauna. The restaurant sits slap bang in the middle of town, on the east side of the Botanical Gardens, making it easy to access on foot.

What to Order

The restaurant serves an array of French, Mediterranean and Portuguese light bites and can cater to a handful of dietary requirements including vegetarian and vegan. The menu includes treats like homemade quiche, seared pork belly and honey cooked local cheese. Finish off with a slice of homemade dark chocolate cake and a glass of local Portuguese wine, recommended by the staff.

What to Expect

The restaurant is small, and you will have to book in advance if you’ve got any hope of securing a table. A day or two should be enough notice, but try book a good week in advance if you’re after a table on a Friday or Saturday night. You’re welcome to ask for a table outside though the staff can’t always promise you’ll get it due to how busy they get!
