Iziko Museums are a fantastic treasure trove of Africa’s history, heritage, culture and biodiversity.

The Iziko Museums comprise a comprehensive group of 11 national museums based in Cape Town which also include heritage buildings, monuments and versatile collections that boast 700-million year old fossils to modern textiles.

Houses, Vineyards, Ship Models and More

Slave Lodge is the oldest building in this group with a history spanning over three centuries. This museum features among others a fascinating ceramic gallery as well as a silver gallery.

The South African Museum, founded in 1825 houses over 1.5 million exhibits ranging from insects to stone tools.

Iziko takes pride in its house museums – the 17th century Groot Constantia Manor House, one of the oldest vineyards in the country, the beautiful red-brick Bertram House and the 18th century Koopmans-de Wet House, all of which provide a glimpse of a bygone era.

The Iziko Maritime Centre with its collection of ship models is a great place for hobbyists and historians.
