Ipanema Beach

One of the world's most famous beaches, Ipanema is a must-see destination when you're in Rio.

Relax on the Soft Sands

Rio has no shortage of great beaches, but Ipanema is easily one of the best. The water’s clear, the sand is clean, and there’s plenty of space to stretch out, in comparison to the more crowded Copacabana beach just a few minutes away. Dust off your brightest swimmers and enjoy the sand and surf – choose the early morning if you’d like it to yourself, or around sunset for a truly spectacular show.

Get a Taste of the Real Rio

Ipanema may be a tourist beach, but you’ll find yourself subject to Rio’s amazing hospitality while you’re there. Food vendors are numerous, friendly, and damned good at what they do, so you need only bring your sandals and your towel with you and let them take care of the rest. When you’re done enjoying the waves, head a little way up the beach, settle yourself at a bar on the dunes, and people watch.
