Step out of tourist mode and head to what is probably the best Chinatown outside of Asia. Then dine at Hunan Home’s. There’s a reason why all the locals go here. While there are no frills and no bells and whistles, Hunan Home’s serves up practically any of your standards and classics using the freshest ingredients and with sauces that are a cut above the rest.
Dishes are custom made here, so be sure to specify how you like your food. Chefs will honor requests from the mildest to the most insane level of spicy. Such consistently good food and individual attention is perhaps what has won this establishment a “Best Bay Area Chinese Restaurant Award” as well as other accolades. All the dishes are good but insiders tout the the Mongolian Chicken at this family-run eatery.
Don’t miss out on strolling through one of the best of all Chinatowns when you’ve finished your meal (http://www.sanfranciscochinatown.com). The shops are seemingly endless; selling clothing, herbs and other health items, and much more. Be prepared for some heavy duty walking, though, up and down hills!
