Hospital Sant Pau

Hospital Sant Pau is a former hospital turned museum located near the Can Baro district of Barcelona, just a 20-minute metro ride or walk north-east of the Gothic Quarter. The hospital is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is now a museum and cultural site that explores the cities history of medicine.

Hospital History

Built between 1901 and 1930 the impressive building stands tall and boasts a modernist facade. Designed by local Catalan architect Lluis Domenech I Montaner the modernista hospital is home to beautiful gardens, dotted with colourful Moorish-style pavilions that only add to the charm and character of the grounds.

Guided Tour

To best appreciate the buildings architecture and design you should take a guided tour around the historical complex. Tours last approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes and multilingual guides will explore the building with you, sharing tales of its past and stories of former patients.
