Races In A Historic Setting
Some of the best horse racing events in the Caribbean take place in the Historic Garrison Savannah. The Barbados Turf Club hosts 25 races a year, most of which take place on Saturdays. One of the best days to attend the races is Boxing Day, when there is a fantastic Christmas atmosphere.
Over 150 Years Of Racing
In 1845 officers in the British regiment raced their horses with wealthy merchants and plantation owners. Today it’s still a great place to watch horse racing; visitors can either pay a small fee to enter the grounds, or watch from outside at the low fences where you also get great views of the action.
There are a few bars inside the grounds which offer refreshments, as well as food stands on the outside that sell typical Caribbean food, hamburgers, hot dogs and ice creams. A day at the races is fun way to spend the afternoon, where lots of people try their luck picking a winner.
