El Yeso Dam

Placid turquoise waters, clear blue skies, crisp mountain air set against a memorable backdrop of snow-dusted mountains – that’s El Yeso Dam for you.

On the Rio Yeso

El Yaso Dam, a massive reservoir built in 1964, is fed by the El Yeso River and supplies water to the city of Santiago and its surroundings. The Embalse El Yeso, as it is locally known, is situated at a reachable 73 kms. from the city centre.

Activities on the Reservoir

The reservoir is frequented in summer months when you can enjoy a spot of fishing, wind surfing or a picnic in one of the most picture-perfect places in the country. A few kilometres further down the road brings you to Valle del Yeso Park where several hot springs and thermal pools gurgle to welcome visitors.

Handy Tips:

  • Winter months are unpredictable as the roads might get snowed in.
  • Naturally, given its remote location, public transport is not available. 4x4s are highly recommended, if you plan on hiring cars.
