Step back in time
Confeitaria Colombo serves as a window into Rio’s past as a city where the wealthy came to live and play in days gone by, with its beautiful vaulted ceiling and old-fashioned elegance. As the name implies, the Confeitaria specialises in cakes and pastries, and serves as an excellent place to enjoy a fancy–but extremely reasonably priced–lunch or afternoon tea treat. The crepes are a particular specialty and are offered with a variety of uniquely Brazilian filings, but a variety of local and international sweets and pastries are also on offer, and equally good.
A favourite with the locals
Though times have changed, and the once highly formal Confeitaria is now a somewhat more casual eatery, it remains popular with locals, and is located in Rio Antigo, a historic part of the city that is often overlooked by tourists–so you can avoid the worst of the crowd on the beaches and come here for an elegant afternoon tea that will in no way break the bank, and will offer an insight into how the people of Rio spend their days.
