The Road to Michelin Stardom
Though Belcanto first swung open its doors in 1958, it didn’t fall into the welcoming hands of Jose Avillez until 2012. Upon acquiring the restaurant (along with a handful of others in town) the chef revamped the décor and menu and earned his first Michelin star before the year was out. In 2014, Belcanto took its second Michelin star becoming the first restaurant in the city to do so.
What to Order
Guests may choose between dining from the a la carte menu or sampling one of the tasting menus; all offer a gastronomic experience to remember. Highlights include suckling pig with orange and salad, braised red mullet with liver juice and oxtail with chickpea and Serra cheese. There are only ten tables inside, so reservations well in advance are an absolute must.
