Vanbrugh House Hotel

Named in honour of English architect and dramatist Sir John Vanbrugh of Blenheim Palace and Castle Howard fame, this Georgian boutique hotel is situated on a quiet Oxford street opposite the world famous Oxford Union. Its central location makes it ideal for visiting colleges and the University, plus Oxford’s main shopping area and malls.

Exquisite interiors

Room décor and furnishings are in three main styles: traditional Georgian, Arts and Crafts, and Eclectic, while the Vicarage suite and the Nicholas Hawksmoor room offer their own city garden and terrace areas. All the furniture and bed-frames are hand-crafted in England. In all, there are 18 rooms plus four suites, all en-suite and with rainfall showers.

Drinks and dining

Light lunches, afternoon teas and pre-dinner drinks are served in the Drawing Room, while the Vanbrugh Vaults, where part of the original city wall can be seen, is home to the hotel’s restaurant, serving classic British dishes from locally sourced ingredients. There is also an outside sun terrace for drinks and dining.
