Spicy Sichuan Cuisine
This local dive tops the Hong Kong Tourism Board’s list of restaurants that specialize in spicy foods. The restaurant is on the upper floor of a food center in Shek Ting Tsui, any may be slightly difficult for foreign visitors to find. But once they’re in the area, its vivid yellow signage–almost as loud as its food–should draw enough attention to it.
Hot Hot Hot
Tou Yuen Delicacies makes cuisine from the Sichuan region of China, known for its ultra-hot flavors. The restaurant offers a variety of tofu, veggie, and meat dishes, all cooked with plenty of chili. One popular dish is the “saliva chicken,” served in a chili broth. There’s enough in one order to scald the tongues of an entire table.
Unfortunately, there are no real options on the menu for those with sensitive stomachs. On the other hand, it’s a great location for visitors who are up to a spice challenge. And all diners at Tou Yuen are welcome to cool down with some local beers.
