Tiergarten Schonbrunn, also known as Zoo Vienna, is the oldest zoo in the western world. Opened in 1752 the zoo sits on the west side of Schonbrunner Schloss Park and provides a fun day out for young and old alike.

The Animals

The zoo houses over 700 different species of animals including orangutans, Siberian tigers and the somewhat rare giant pandas. A morning can be spent exploring the rainforest house, dropping in on animal feeds, venturing through the Amazon rainforest stimulation and saying hello to the penguins in the aquarium.

Tickets can be purchased at the zoo but buying online in advance will avoid queues. Adult entrance is €18.50, child entrance is €9 and under six years enter for free. Families of five may consider purchasing the ‘Benefits Package’ for €54 which includes two adult passes and three children passes.
