St. Stephen’s Basilica

Named for the first king of Hungary, St. Stephen's Basilica is one of the tallest buildings in the city and the symbolic center of the country. It is one of the prime historical sites in the city.

An Architectural Beauty

Completed in 1905, the neo-Classical building is a marvel of architecture. The great dome of the church is flanked by two bell towers, one of which contains the largest bell in the country. The lush details of the interior include intricate domes, awe-inspiring artwork and sculpture, and soaring columns.

With the Parliament Building, the Basilica is the tallest structure in the city at 96 meters. Some claim this symmetry is show that secular and spiritual lives should be balanced. By law, no building can be built higher.

A Spiritual Home

The church is active and open to the public for worship. In addition, it has an extensive concert music program well-received throughout the city. For an extra thrill, you can ride a lift to the dome for spectacular views of the city from the dome itself.
