San Pol de Mar Beach

If you’re looking for a quieter, less crowded, alternative to Barceloneta Beach, then you’re going to want to pack your day bag and head north of the city to San Pol de Mar Beach. Located roughly over an hours train or car ride north of central Barcelona this little beach is home to clean soft sand, seaside charm and a handful of Spanish restaurants to boot.

What to Expect

This family-friendly beach is the perfect spot for a day trip. You can enjoy sunbathing on the sands, swimming in the refreshing Mediterranean Sea or snorkelling in the rock pools that surround the bay. What is more, the town of San Pol de Mar is also a quaint little area to explore on foot, and it’s worth winding your way through the narrow streets in search of the best lunch spot (we recommend Restaurant Banys Luis for its seafood paella).

Getting Here

Getting to San Pol de Mar is super easy thanks to the cities efficient transport system. If you’ve not hired a car for your time in the city, then fear not as the train runs directly from Old Town Barcelona right to the beach. Simply catch the R1 train from Placa de Catalunya and ride it all the way to San Pol de Mar, you’ll arrive in just over an hour.
