San Jose Municipal Rose Garden

Pretty Lady, Eyeconic Lemonade, Dee-Lish, Good as Gold – Wondering what these names represent? Well, they are the brand new varieties of roses that you’ll only find at the spectacular Municipal Rose Garden at San Hose.

America’s Best Rose Garden

Founded in 1937, the impressive garden is spread over an expansive 5.5 acres of trimmed and beautifully-kept park. The garden has won several awards and accolades for its roses. In fact, it has been designated as a test garden for the All American Rose Selection which means visitors get to see new varieties of roses before they are released in the floral market.

Thriving on volunteers

Each year hundreds of San Jose residents turn out to help in the upkeep of the Rose Garden. They work hard to ensure that visitors get to see roses in all their resplendent glory. The garden is a riot of colours and alluring fragrances for most part of the year, thanks to its 3500 rose bushes featuring 189 species of roses.

Don’t be surprised if you find a bride walking in the grounds. The garden with its pristine fountain, floral scents and lush greenery is a favoured wedding site.

Handy Tip

  • If you’re fond of flowers, plan your trip for April or May. That’s when the park is in full bloom with thousands of roses.
