Ho Chi Minh City

Pham Ngu Lao Street

Named for a Tran Dynasty general, this stretch is now home to Ho Chi Minh City’s vibrant backpacker scene.

Ho Chi Minh City’s Biggest Party

Every major destination has an area where young backpackers congregate. In Ho Chi Minh City, that area is Pham Ngu Lao Street. Lined with inexpensive hotels, hostels, and guesthouses, and close to several large markets such as Ben Thanh, Pham Ngu Lao provides international visitors with constant entertainment. It’s a street that never sleeps.

Food and Drink…and Drink

Pham Ngu Lao is a great place to find cheap eats. From chains like Highlands Coffee–essentially the Starbucks of Vietnam–to simple restaurants like Pho Hung, it’s easy to find all kinds of local food for a price that young tourists can afford. The street is also a good place for those looking to book tours to other parts of Vietnam. Many travel agencies are located there.

Then, of course, there are the bars. Most of the hotels and hostels have their own bars, all with cheap local draft beers. But there are several other casual bars as well, including Le Pub and Saigon Bar, which features live music. For those looking to drink, Pham Ngu Lao is the spot.
