Museo Correr - the main city museum that presents the history and the traditions of the remarkable city of Venice.

History & Traditions

Museo Correr is located in the heart of Venice, on the famous San Marco Square. The visit includes an entrance through a ballroom dating back to the Napoleonic times and through the beautifully restored rooms of the Austrian Emperor Franz Jozeph and his wife Sissi in the 19th century. Further to be seen is Museo Archeologico and the 16th-century Biblioteca Marciana of Jacopo Sansovino, where is to be seen some of the Greek and Roman legacy.

 

The main Correr collection

The collection of the Correr Museum is very impressive, including coins, maps and globes, as well as musical instruments. Other highlights include Two Venetian Noblewomen by Vittore Carpaccio, Pietà with Three Angels by Antonello da Messina, and St Justine and the Treasurers by Tintoretto.
