Eat like a local
La Casa del Prosciutto is popular with the locals for a reason–the food is is both cheap and delicious, and the setting is beautiful. Right by the river, this restaurant offers the best of local, home-made Tuscan cuisine, and is especially famous for the region’s signature dish, tortelli di patate, which is sort of a cross between gnocchi and tortellini. The menu isn’t limited to pasta, though, and is instead comprised of a variety of local, down-to-earth dishes that are as much food for the soul as they are for the body.
Get away from tourist traps
Vicchio–where La Casa is situated–is a sleepy town with tranquil surrounds, almost completely bereft of tourists despite being only a short trip outside of Florence. This makes it the ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle and steep yourself in the local culture. Take your lunch or dinner down to the riverside, sit at one of the long tables, and immerse yourself in the restorative powers of taking a simple break from it all.
