Family-run fine dining
Food and family are at the heart of Italian culture, but it can be difficult to find restaurants that combine that heart and soul with gourmet cuisine. Il Convivio was founded by three gourmand brothers, Massimo, Giuseppe, and Angelo Troiani. The restaurant is still family-run to this day.
Many upscale restaurants tend towards fusion cuisine and even fine Italian restaurants in Rome are prone to add a little international flair to its regional dishes. Here you’ll find a purer Italian cuisine where the bread is made from scratch and the fresh pasta is still hand pulled. The six-course tasting menu includes pumped-up gourmet versions of ravioli, chicken cacciatore, and tiramisu.
Wine by the glass
The Troiani brothers’ passion extends past the kitchen. Il Convivio has an impressive wine cellar of over 3,500 labels and the restaurant strongly believes that fine wine should be accessible. To that end, there is a large selection of wines by the glass, and the tasting menu has an option to add five different wine pairings.
