A success story
The story of Galeries Lafayette began in 1895 when Theophile Bader and Alphonse Kahn opened a small fashion store. Their amazing success resulted in the great Parisian shopping destination that the world knows so well.
The store is housed in a magnificent building complete with a central ornate atrium topped by a stunning, colorful glass dome that is reminiscent of the great monuments in France. This extravagant store has devoted exclusive floors for perfumes, women’s fashions (three of them!) and children. The sixth floor has a bridal store, a souvenir shop, a bookstore and several restaurants. If you’re fashion conscious, you’ll want to take a look at the latest in haute couture at their weekly fashion shows on Fridays at 3 pm.
The best way to end your day (yes, it’ll probably take a day or two!) is by going all the way up to the spacious seventh floor roof terrace. Park yourself on a couch and take in a striking vista of Paris. You’ll fall in love with the city all over again.
