Bayou St. John offers a wonderful space to revel in nature and to enjoy some leisurely water activities. This beautiful place, next to New Orleans’ City Park, is where those who like kayaking and paddleboarding go for a bit of rural fun. It’s a family-friendly area that’s excellent for picnicking and just getting away from the bustle.
A Scenic Space Within an Hour of Downtown New Orleans
To get to Bayou St. John, take the Canal Street streetcar, a car, or a boat. The urban bank of the bayou is an excellent location to spend a holiday weekend or attend a festival, of which there are many throughout the year. Earth Day, the Fourth of July, and the annual music festival called Bayou Boogaloo are just some of the events that take place at Bayou St. John. Often, it can be nice to rent a boat at Bayou St. John and linger on the water when the weather is pleasant.
