Bamboo Asia is a place where you won’t feel like a tourist. Plenty of people working in the financial district head here for lunch, as do shoppers hitting the high-end stores of Union Square, like Zara and Cartier (unionsquareshop.com). And whether you fancy Vietnamese, Japanese, or Indian cuisine, your taste-buds will be pleased here. Your wallet will be happy too.
I visited for a healthy lunch in between trying on lots of clothing, and couldn’t finish the ample portions in the Indian Salad Bowl. It was flavorful, too, without being outrageously hot and spicy. My friend had a banh-mi sandwich and loved it. For those unfamiliar with this Vietnamese creation, you can’t imagine what you’re missing. During the French colonization of Indochina, French and Asian cuisines blended together, allowing for the glorious banh-mi. Imagine marinated pork, chicken, or duck, with jalapenos, ginger, sriracha, and a bit of mayonnaise on a crusty french baguette!
Roti Wraps, Japanese Rice Bowls, and of course sushi, are also options. This is great food at a great price, allowing you to save your pennies for the stores! Bamboo Asia also offers takeout. When the weather is nice, as it often is, many order takeout and dine al fresco in nearby Union Square.
