Wizarding World in Hanoi
The fame of J.K. Rowling’s boy wizard Harry Potter is not limited to the Western world. The book series has many fans in Vietnam as well, and one of them went so far as to open a Harry Potter-themed cafe. Located in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, Always Cafe pays tribute to Hogwarts–and it has a magical menu to match.
Coffee and Butterbeer
Along with more conventional beverages, Always has a drink menu to rival that of the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade. The most popular selection is, of course, the Butterbeer. Always’ recipe tastes like a slightly more buttery root beer float, topped with whipped cream and a handful of nuts. Visitors can also try Polyjuice Potion and Felix Felicis.
The cafe’s front room has stone walls and strong wooden columns, evocative of Hogwarts’ Great Hall. The back room is cozier, with red plush seats below the four house banners: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. Broomsticks dangle from the ceiling. The cafe also has free wifi, which is almost as useful as spell-casting.
